Did you know that about 4.9% of Broward County residents suffer from depression, anxiety, or some other kind of mental illness? In this video, I’m going to tell you all about Hearty Homes, my program that supports the mental health of Southeast Floridians. I’ll explain how I’ve built my business to give back to the community and show you how you can help.
Struggling With Mental Illness
In Florida, 6.8% of people who have a mental illness don't get treatment—which is higher than the national average. Because of these statistics, there’s a need in the community to provide more access to mental health treatment. Having worked as a health care proxy for over six years, I wanted to make an impact and tie that into my business.
I help local South Floridians with their real estate needs, but I do things a little differently. I understand the struggle and the stigma that goes along with mental illness. There are so many individuals in our community that struggle with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, and I believe that everyone should have access to treatment and services when needed.
I also believe that, as a community, we need to be more informed about mental illness and how to help those who are dealing with it. I'm not just about helping people find a home; I'm about helping my community. As a health care proxy, I gave back to my patients every day. What most people don't realize is that caregivers are also at risk of mental illness due to the demands of taking care of their loved ones. Caregivers need to have a home away from home, a place where they can leave their loved ones for the day and know that they will be well taken care of.
The Hearty Homes Program
I am a purpose-driven person, and I want my business to have a greater purpose. That’s how Hearty Homes was created—and here's how it works.
Anytime I help a client buy or sell a home, we’ll donate 10% of our earnings to either the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida or Tender Loving Care Adult Daycare. We let our clients choose which cause to donate, and the money will go towards funding the many programs and services offered through MHA. These programs provide services for adults, children, and families who are directly or indirectly affected by mental illness.
One of the greatest day-to-day challenges for these nonprofits is raising funds and awareness to provide services for those who need them the most. Hearty Home was created in a way to assist them in their mission. Buying and selling real estate is an important decision and investment, and it is also important to me to invest in my community's wellbeing and needs. So if you're looking for an agent who's going to look out for your investment and your community, I would love to serve you. Feel free to reach out to me and I’d be happy to connect!
